Apex Teen Fashion Awards

Friday 6th September was a great day for the entrants in the awards. The students were from Yr 6 to Yr 12, from a combination of schools and they looked like professional fashion models as they “strutted” their stuff to the delight of the 300+ audience.

The Apex Teen Fashion Awards is a national competition with heats in many city and regional areas. We combined with students from Wagin and Katanning to have 48 students show their talent. The state finals will be held in Perth on September 22nd with the national finals following a few weeks later in Melbourne.

There are five students who will compete in Day Wear in Perth: Mikayla Draper Courtney Giles-Morton, Taylah Jensen, Venetia Macinnes and Hayley Simmons.

Only one student got through to the finals for Evening Wear and that was Jycara Stewart. Society and Environment will have two finalists, Criscielle Flores (NSHS) and Saige Edwards (Wagin). Wearable Art will have four students: Hayley Simmons (NSHS) and Brianna Davidson, Brittany Bolt and Haylee Boxall (Wagin).

Yr 10 Students participate in Nurse West “GREaT Work Experience” Program

Hayley has a GREaT Work Experience!

Hayley has a GREaT Work Experience!

Last week Year 10 student Hayley Simmons participated in a Nurse West Work Experience Program at Armidale Hospital. The program is developed by WA Health Nursing and Midwifery Office.

The Get Real Experience and Try (GREaT) program aims to encourage high school students to experience nursing prior to undertaking study with a state training provider or university.

Over four days the students had the chance to observe many aspects of nursing and midwifery in general wards and critical care. These included changing nappies and feeding newborn babies, taking temperatures and watching surgeries being performed.  In the following weeks three other students will be participating in this program at other Perth Hospitals.
