In the ever expanding world of ICT, student safety and appropriate use of ICT becomes a risk that schools must manage. Most students are aware of the dangers of the internet but they often believe the risk does not apply to them.

In an effort to manage the risk and to assure safe and appropriate use of the internet, Narrogin Senior High School has recently introduced NetControl. This software package allows staff to view student computers while they are logged in and observe how students are using the internet resource within the school. While inappropriate or risky use is detected, the teacher can send the student a screen message reminding them of their responsibilities and asking them to cease what they are doing. Further actions can be applied by the teacher when required, to either log the student off the computer or block the inappropriate program they have been accessing. This will allow staff to further develop student awareness of appropriate workplace usage of technology.
