Mathematics describes patterns and relationships within our world. The study of Mathematics gives us opportunity to recognise the wonderful power and purpose that is demonstrated through the order and consistency found within Mathematics.
At Narrogin Senior High School we recognise that not only does Mathematics have its own value and beauty, but it also pervades every aspect of life and the subjects that are studied at school. The task of our teachers is to instil in our students an appreciation of the elegance and power of mathematical reasoning and problem solving, and how we benefit from this in everyday life.
Mathematics is not a static and infallible body of knowledge and this is demonstrated in the historical development of Mathematics across all cultures over thousands of years. The curriculum focuses on developing increasingly sophisticated and refined mathematical understanding, fluency, logical reasoning, analytical thought and problem-solving skills. These capabilities enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing mathematical strategies to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently.
Students are encouraged to develop broad knowledge and skills in Mathematics and to be prepared to share their knowledge and understanding to assist others in their learning. Our students are given opportunities to explore and experiment with Mathematics, and to achieve success.
At Narrogin Senior High School we study the Australian Curriculum and our students develop mathematical literacy preparing them for tertiary study and future employment. All students are provided with opportunity to develop a mathematical understanding that can lead to the study of all levels of Mathematics, including Mathematics Specialist, that are offered in Senior School.
“The journey of Mathematics throughout a student’s life at school can be exciting, practical and enjoyable.”
